XR6 help...voltage regulator?

Can someone help point me in the right direction.......my 1999 XR6 stopped charging, and my tach no longer works. I switched the gray wire to the other voltage regulator on a mechanic friend's advice, and the tach works fine. Does this sound like just the vr gone bad? And if so, does anyone have experience replacing the unit. I would like to do it myself if it is, in fact, just the vr. Thanks in advance for any help guys!

Jeff, Yes sounds like what mine did a few years ago. Volt Reg went out, swapped the tach wire and the other worked fine. Make sure to replace the bad one soon, don't know what else could be wrong or go wrong.
