trolling motor protector

Does anyone make some sort of protector for where the trolling motor comes in contact with the top of the gunnel? Is there any way to lift the motor higher up in the mounting bracket? I have a couple little cuts in the black rubber molding and in the carpet. (mostly due to accidently stepping on the foot pedal after pulling up the motor.) I guess immediatly unplugging after use would fix this but it is a pain to keep plugging it in and unplugging it. Thanks.
