Trim Gauge not Working

Had a 2 day tournamnet this past weekend in NH and did fairly well. Caught plenty of fish, but the larger ones eluded me. Well everything is working fine when all of a sudden the trim indicator gauge just stops working. There is voltage going to the gauge when the key in on and it does move a bit, but will not register the trim position. Does anyone know where the gauge gets its signal from for the trim position? Any other ideas would be a great help. Thanks everyone.

The sending unit is on the port side of the motor bracket where the motor tilts on the trim ram. It could have failed or come unplugged.
