Hi guys, I have a question regarding Tachs. My tachometer will sometimes read a lot higher than usual, and I know the prop isn't slipping, because The speed is normal, and the sound of the engine is normal also. I had the spline checked, and it's fine, no spun prop. My question is, do tachs sometimes give strange readings? or is my tach ready to be replaced? Just for the sake of giving details, the engine usually revs at 56-5700 rpms, at wot, but sometimes it will read 6000-6400 rpms, or even a little higher. Any suggestions?

As John said, your regulator is probably going. You should get it fixed as it can lead to ohter problems with your elec system. It's best that you don't get stuck on the water with a dead cranking battery. Just my .02, good luck.
