smoking motor

while idling I have smoke comeing out of front of my motor cover.Also some oil coming out of airbox.Is this anything major?Its a 1991 merc 50 hp. Thanks and keep up the great site.

Steve, it doesn't sound good! Take a compression check to start with, and check the condition/color of the spark plugs. These 2 things can tell you a great deal about the inside of a motor.

Check the oiler also

The only oil smoke you should have coming from that engine should be out the exhaust! You may have a leak somewhere that is getting on the block. Get it looked at.

My 200 was doing that and it cost $59 to fix (whew) it was the oiler line and cap under the cowling, but on the upside I gassed all the mosquitos on the lake
