Motor size

I have the model and serial numbers of a small Johnson outboard but not sure if it is a 9.9 or 7.5. There are no decals on the hood. The seller says it is a 9.9, but a tag on the motor says 7.5. Any ideas on how to find out the correct size?

Excellent...its a 1999 9.9 Johnson....thanks Greg. It runs great and is quiet. Now lets see if I can get it for a good price.

That engine, if in good condition, would sell here for (rough estimate) $500-750, depending on condition. Good solid engines that will last forever uif not abused.
