I have decided to give drop shotting a try and would like to know what length and weight rod is favored by the dropshotters on this board. I am thinking of a 7 ft med. action spinning rod with 8 lb vanish transition. Am I in the ballpark with this set-up ? Would a 6 ft med. action rod work OK ? Thanks for your input and honest answers.

I don't care for a 7 foot for shottin, but thats me, I use a 5 1/2 foot baitcaster and 6' med spinning.......10- 12 pound test for me depending on the bottom, and I like big hooks too. Many people use lite line and small hooks, but in my experience so far, I am catchin bigger fish with the bigger hooks, and bigger shots(5 inch);)

Beck, that's the setup for me. I use a 7 foot medium Lightning Rod with 6 or 8 pound Vanish.

My favorite baits are a 4 inch worm, nose hooked on a #1 hook and a Senko, wacky rigged on a 2/0 hook.

7' Lamiglas DropShot special. 6lb flurocarbon line and Stand-out hooks. For some of our clear lakes here in Northern CAL, the spotted bass get real line shy. They are real mushy biters too and the fast action rod with flurocarbon seems to pick up the light bites best. For the most part I use RoboWorms but I've had some luck with 4" Senkos too.

I just got set up with my first true drop shot combo...a most excellent Shimano Saraha spinning reel, a gift from my new friend Sim, and a Shimano Crucial 7'2" medium dropshot rod that I picked up from my other friend, BJ at the OKC BPS. I loaded the reel up with some P-Line 6# Floroclear. I just got to fish with it once, weekend before last. That day was a blank but I can't blame the new rig. The lake I was fishing that weekend was wall to wall pleasure boaters and pontooners....couldn't find a single spot that didn't have fools flying by at full speed and waving at me like we were old friends or something. Before, I have been dropshotting with an old Bass Pro XPS 6'6" spinning rod and a Mitchell reel. Must have worked pretty good since I caught enough bass to pique my intrest in the technique.
