On my Nitro 188, yesterday the Humminbird depth finder (the standard factory installed dash unit) would start beeping with its shallow warning and showing a depth of 1 foot. Of course, the first time, I stopped immediately, it was still showing 1 foot, then went to a reading of 27 feet. Any idea what to check? It did this several times during the day, so I finally turned the beep alarm off.
 
Check your transducer. Make sure it isn't loose.

I have the same unit on my boat. It reads 1.5 at speeds over 45mph. I have the alarms off and just ignore it.

If this only happens when you are running (as with Bob G's problem) than the problem is either air getting under the transducer or motor interference.



If the problem is motor interference, you can usually find it out by revving your motor while out of gear (just don't blow your motor up doing this!). If you see a bunch of random returns (dots, pixels,
