Univac 418 CPU w/30 MB memory and Flying Head Drum, 880MB memory.

Two of these units (930 megabytes of memory & CPU) would fill a tractor trailer. They had printers that would fill a small dining room. Input was punched 80 column cards or 12" magnetic tape. These babies had 30,000 switching transistors in each CPU. One night a stray horsehair from a broom got airbourne and was sucked into the ferrite memory, shut the sucker down for two hours until we found it.

Lotta stories and memories. Glad I lived through it all.

Wouldn't trade the times for anything.

MANCHU!

USMC 1967 to 1971 Loved the travel at government expense... I experienced two of the best hangovers in the history of mankind... Can never forget the people I served with, truly the finest men that ever served their country... I only wish they had all come home...
