I have a 640LX with matching trailstar trailer. I want to know if there are any ill effects of replacing the bias ply tires with radial tires. I'd like to trailer the boat for longer distances than I have but I'm not sure I like the idea long trailering with bias ply tires. I had bias plys on my last trailstar and had one "break the bead" due to road conditions. (No I wasn't doing 80).

Also,

1. Can radials be mounted on the existing rims or do I need new rims for radials.

2. If I need new rims, are there any problems with using aluminum rims?

Thanks in advance.

ive had radials since 99 on my trailer, will not go back to bias there.they ride smoother, tow easier, and the best part is no rim changes.

no ill effects with the switch.i towed my boat round trip roughly 2200 mles,no problems.the radials ride a lot smoother,no flatspotting as with the bias, and they give better mileage than the bias do.
