I have an '05 Nitro 882. Does anyone here know what the warranty is on the hull of these boats? I noticed today that there is about a 3/4" gap between my transom and the top of the jackplate. Upon further inspection I noticed that the washers and nuts on the inside are pulled through the hull. I took it to my Nitro dealer where I bought it and they are checking in to it. I fished a summer tounament series all summer long and now have the championship next week and it looks like I am screwed! Not a happy camper to say the least. The guy at the service counter told me he thought the warranty was only 1 year or maybe 5, he didn't know for sure. Any advice???:angry:
 
You should have a ten year hull warranty! When I bought mine it was ten years and that was is 2002. At that time the 9 series boats were lifetime hull warranties.
 
Wezel is right but if you bought the boat used the warranty gets dropped to 5 years to the second owner. You also had to register it as the new owner within a year of buying it i believe, This is a pretty standard thing in the marine industry.
 
Regardless of your warranty be prepared for a long battle to get things fixed. Your season is done for sure. I had hull issues with tracker and they did repair at there expence but in there own time. They did minimal work fixing only what they needed to make it float. I got rid of that boat as soon as it came back. Good luck.
 
I bought it new. Went back to the dealer that I bought it from. They put a plate on the inside so I could fish my last tournament and said they will see what Tracker says to do with it.
 
I think they all ought to have the inside transom plate on them from the factory. My 2000 929 has one factory installed. When you think about it the size of the washer without the plate it the pressure point of the motor and that is not good.

New, you should have a 10 yr. structural warranty. I find it amazing that the rigging dealer would originally install a jackplate without a transom toughener. The stress added by the displaced weight on the transom will not be sufficiently protected by fender washers. I believe your issue actually lies with the rigging dealer, not the manufacturer. The 882 shipped from the factory with an 8" plate. Mine was the same way from the factory as well with no plate. I believe they all shipped without the plate on them. I did have one added to mine because of those exact concerns.
 
Jim - WOW....No way I'd have taken a jacked rig out without at least an upper toughner to support the offset. (That and they're "purdy". :cool: :D ) When I was running 12" Merc Paralifts on 896's I used upper and lower (custom) tougheners to support the transom. Without that weight displaced you're just asking to pull those bolts through the wood under long term use. Whoever did the install with washers should address the issue. I'm sure if the factory sent it that way they'll take care of it. One of those penny wise, pound foolish learning curves I guess. :wacko:

Dan, im right there with you, its just the way they were built. Like the 9 series the top bolts are for the jack plate are below deck so most people would never notice a transom plate not being there. I dont know what they were thinking on that one. Personally i think that transom plate should be standard on every boat, jackplate or not. I ordered me a nice fancy one that says nitro on it when i got my Z7 :)



Thanks for asking about my dad, so far he is doing ok. He had his latest MRI last week and the tumor is stable which is a good thing, it has actually shrunk a little from the baseline MRI. The regular treatment and the study drug he was taking seemed to be working. The only unfortunate thing is he had to come off the study drug. He was doing great with it until he got a massive sunburn that would not heal( both the drugs make him really uv sensitive and he forgot his sunblock once) so the only way to make it better was to take him off the drug. Its getting better after two months of red peeling skin(no pain, just itching) but because he has been off it so long he had to be removed from the study. Im pretty bummed about that since it was going so well. The good news is the doctor who was running the study wants to continue to see him as a patient and he is much more aggressive when it comes to treatment then the other chemo doc he saw form the hospital. he plans to monitor it with monthly MRI's and if there is any change in the tumor he wants to put him on either another study drug or something like avastin, either way he wants to treat it aggressively.The doctor that the hospital referred him to just wanted to do the standard rounds of chemo and then wait to die pretty much. I think he is in much better hands. At this point he looks and feels pretty good, his vision still is terrible but that seems to be permanent. He is in good spirits and seems to have his normal energy levels etc. He goes to work every day and is still doing most of what he normally would do, he just has to limit his outside exposure as much as possible which is hard because he is an outdoorsy guy. We have taken a few night fishing trips too so he has been able to get out on the water some which has been a good thing.
 
Jim, get him some of the sun shade clothing that I see on a lot of the fishermen here in Florida. Use Shaw Grigsby as an example or watch some of the Southern tournaments...Redfish, flats, etc., they all wear the hoods, gloves and long sleeved UV shirts. They seem to stay cool and are very well protected from the sun.

we have got him a bunch of that stuff. It helps but he still really has to be careful. It literally on a sunny day takes him minutes to start to burn wearing spf 100 sunscreen and bundled up with the sun shade clothing. He is just that sensitive to it, last sundae he got a burn on his face just sitting out on the porch in the shade under a big umbrella for 15 min.
 
Thank you for the post JD, I just bought a 2005 NX882 with a 150 hp merc xr6. I have a fixed 7" jackplate. After reading your post I started to look around. Although I have no separation with transom and jackplate, I did notice some small cracking in the fiberglass around the washer starting. From inside the boat looking back it is the right top mounting bolt. It is indented about 1/2 the thickness of the washer. The other is good. I just ordered a transom plate from bobs machine shop. My question is should I fill the small indent with epoxy to bring it level and then put the plate on. Also, I am assumong the plate goes on first and the washers an nut on top of that. Is that correct or do I not need the washers. Again, thanks for the post, you helped me catch this before is was a problem.
 
I would fill any unleveled spots under the washers with RTV sealant at a minimum. 3M 5400 would be my first choice, but the RTV should seal any openings when the plate is installed. After sealing the washer indentations, I would place the plate over the bolts, then reinstall the washers and then the nuts on top of transom toughener, torquing down to tight as can get by hand. This should squeeze any excess sealant out to the edges, which is a good thing. After the next run I would check/tighten again and after a few more times out, check again. Yearly, I recommend everyone to check their motor mount bolts, particularly with a jackplate installed. Good luck! ;)
 
Jim B - Sorry to hear about your Dad's sunburn and falling out of the test group. I am VERY glad to hear he's progressing still and getting out and about with you. That was a great job you all did in getting him to the specialist and not heeding the callous advice given originally. Prayer is a powerful thing that is even supported by clinical evidence. We're all sending a bunch of them up for your family and particularly your Dad. Keep up the good work! :)
