Nitro Z7 Steering

I bought a new Nitro Z-7 with the sea-star hydrolic steering. This is my first boat with this type of steering, always had cables. I noticed the steering wheel will travel the distance of about 1 inch, give or take, of free play before it catches and the motor turns. Can anyone tell me if this is normal, its a 2011 new boat. Thanks.

Nope, not normal. sounds like you might have some air in the lines or the steering isnt indtalled properly. I would take it back to the dealer ASAP.

Engine running or off? Mine has free play with the engine off, but is perfect with it running.

Mine doesn't have any play same boat brand new.

should not have any free play.

sounds like it was not bled properly. easy fix.

Thanks for the responses, took the boat back to the fishin hole where it was purchased and they bled the lines, problem solved, thanks again for all the response. Fred.
