Fuel Tank Vent

Hey guys I have a 1996 Pro 18 with a 90 hp. On the transom just in front of the motor is the fuel tank vent with a screw on cap. If this cap is screwed down tight will it cause fuel loss to the engine? Does the fuel tank need air to push fuel through the line to the motor?

if tight the motor will starve for fuel . leave open a turn or so to vent the fuel tank while running.

Yes, in that model of motor Open the Fuel tank valve while running the motor.
