Does anyone know if you can put a transducer cable back together by using a small amount of wire solder without hurting the sensitivity or otherwise impairing the performance of a depthfinder? Cut mine into with the troll motor base.

I have spliced mine back together with electrical tape and it worked fine. Chris F.

A big portion of the concern is surrounding the 'length' of the cable. Very important to leave the length 'constant' on some sounders. Others, not quite as important. Given what you have done, it will likely not impair the performance (if it does it will likely only be a small amount).

However, given all this will be in a marine environment, you want to make sure that your repair is done right; remains watertight; and will stand the test of time. What's the cost of a new transducer? Balance it out, and determine whether the better long term solution may be simply replacing it.
