I added a jackplate this summer to my 640 with a 90 merc. Speed about the same. A little better holeshot with a load. My main reason was for shallow water operation ( I fish a lot of rivers). I was disappointed from the performance aspect, it really didn't change a whole lot. Not sure I would do it again.
