At low speed operations (No Wake zones) it sounds like my lower unit grinds or rattles. The motor will rattle loudly, then sound normal for a few seconds and returns to grinding/rattling. Oh, no grinding/rattling in neutral.

Also, have a very rough idle issues to deal with.

Engine History:

- 2001 Mercury 75hp ELPTO

- Sat for 6-7 years in a garage; only had 10 hours when I bought it

- Rebuilt/cleaned carbs 3 times - THEY STILL DO NOT RESPOND WELL TO IDLE ADJUSTMENT

- Replaced grey fuel lines and all (including engine) fuel filters - Replaces in-line filter with fuel/water seperator filter

- Rebuilt diaphram fuel pump

- Changed #2 CDI - Suspect #3 CDI spark plug boot; shocking!

- Found a piece of airbox gasket in cyl 3 reed valves

- Changed lower unit gear oil - No chips or shavings

- Relaced impeller

Bottom Line:

Poor throttle response from start- bogs; rough idle

Grinding/rattling in low speeds
