On my recently rebuilt motor, Evinrude 48spl (complete powerhead rebuild), I have about 8.5 hours on it. 1st 5 hours were all very low speeds, below 2000 rpm), next 3.5 hours have been very variable but no more than 2/3 throttle. gas is double oil mix and have run about 18 gallons through.

is this motor ready to open and fly??? my mechanic said 36 gallons at double oil which seems like an awful lot. he said no till then should I go full throttle but everything else I have read seems I have met or exceeded the recommended break-in period.

your opinions please

also, been using evinrude xd30 oil. cant get evinrude around here withoutr driving 100 miles. can get mercury oil at scheels, they have the premium for 17.99 gal and the synthetic blend at 21.99 gal. is mercury oild as good as evinrude. walmart has penzioil stuff even cheaper but I have not heard many great things there. leaning towards the mercury oil. smart move??

thanks

Use the Merc oil...you'll be happier;)

As far as break in....I'm gonna have to lean towards whatever the rebuilder says...better safe than sorry. I don't see a problem with wide open once in awhile...just no sustained periods.
