I heard on the radio this morning that in NY, Republican legislators are proposing to suspend the NY state tax on gas for the summer to help ease the costs of doing business to the little man. Personally, I think it will get shot down by their counterparts for no other reason than politics and the little man will suffer again because of ego, but at least the gesture is being made. Perhaps if enough people scream loud enough, both sides will agree, regardless, that prices need to come down.

But I then wonder where they're going to hit us to make up for the lost tax revenue.

Anyway, it was nice to hear that somebody is proposing something. Now if they DO it, and the feds do it too, then we'll be in much better shape.

A lot states alreay offer this for non road use gas or diesel. In texas $.20 a glallon goes to the state. If i use that gallon in my boat i can get that refunded to me.

Got $50+ dollars coming to me for last years gas.

just something to check.

A State Rep for Pennsylvania proposed the same thing last week. I believe he is stating that the loss in gas tax can be made up using Pennsylvania's budget surplus, but don't hold me to that.

Rob - Forgot to post this under the other gas price post - Sure...oil is up to over $40 a barrel..but guess what? Your SUV doesn't run on crude oil, does it? Nope. That oil has to be refined, and we haven't built a new refinery in the United States since 1976. What's more, some of the refineries we do have are shutting down because they simply cannot afford to meet some of the new environmental standards we've created. What about building new refineries? Yeah ... try to get that by the anti-capitalist, environmentalist socialists. Oil companies are left simply trying to increase the capacity of the refineries they do have.

I SALUTE any government official who is lowering/removing ANY tax, I just with the'd decrease the entitlement programs at the same time.

Anywho, we're tied to a monomoplistic fuel with few suppliers who can price fix and charge what they want. Unless we start drilling into the Artic Reserves, push our car manufactures for continued increases in techological fuel mileage advances, individual responsibility if you choose to cut your usage, the Oil PRODUCING companies will NOT see a need to control prices!

Last time the prices went way way up they suspended the Tax's in Illinois for a while. It helped shave a fair amount off each gallon...i don't recall how much specifically though.

Also folks, let's remember something that is NOT being discussed/reported regarding gas and refineries. This year, there was a tremendous fire in the refineries down in Texas City (between Houston and Galveston). I'm certain, that this has affected how much gas is available (in short, affects the supply).

Readin' the headline Rob...I thought maybe you and Tox were gonna' have somekind of "battle of the bowels" competition:)

OK, this might be a little long, bear with me. This country was started because, for one, a bunch of people got sick and tired of paying ridiculous tarriffs and taxes and we had this little thing called the Boston Tea Party. It was a crucial turning point towards the Revolution. The founding fathers also were sick and tired of a remote, unapproachable governing body that was implementing laws (mostly about religion) that had no place here.

OK, lets fast forward a few hundred years to today.....and WHAT has changed???

Gas is taxed by a percentage. Lets say, for argument's sake, 25%. So at $1.00 p/gal that's $0.25 on every gallon. When the PRICE of gas goes to $2.00 p/gal, the tax ALSO jumps up to $0.50 p/gal, and the gov't did NOTHING and incurred NO extra expenses. They simply took in more funds from an already economically stressed society.

The whole tax the snot out of cigarettes thing urked me to no end. Do I smoke? NO! Do I think it's pretty stupid to damage your body and waste money on them? Yes! Do I think it is ANYONE'S right, especially the gov't to step in and say "We're going to intervene by taxing them so high that people can't afford them!"? Hell NO!

If they would just cut taxes a tad, things would get a heck of a lot easier for everyone. I won't go into which party favors increasing taxes and which likes to cut them. One guy gives us our money back, while the other digs his hands into our pockets deeper.

We should also cut all this damn foreign aid to all the ungrateful useless countries that badmouth us but love our money. Use it to fund domestic programs like sending more AMERICAN kids to college, or putting it into school activities. Maybe the environment, or finding alternative fuel sources. Stop dumping money out for federal insurance for people who KNOWINGLY build in flood zones, because the fed gov't with OUR tax dollars will insure it. Stop all that stupid, idiotic nonsense and you'd be amazed at how quickly the economy would rebound and be booming again.

Rant is officially over.

Yeah Tee, I had that fear people might thing something like that. But I know when I'm "out gunned"! I'll stick to what I'm good at....staying OFF the cribs! LOL

Well, if a local guide is holding his boat 100 yards away and yelling at you "TRIM UP! TRIM UP!" and you don't......it don't matter what you know. LOL And I have a witness too! LOL Pete and I had a good laugh at that one. Good thing you didn't damage it, cause in those waves, we'd a had a hell of a time getting you towed back out of Maquam.

For real gas relief try BEANO,works wonders, ask my wife.Never mind don't.

Actually Rob, a minor correction, among other things, it was taxation without representation. The colonies were being taxed without having any vote in Parliament and the taxes went to England with nothing staying for the colonies.

Well maybe if the party that gave back so much Rob, didn't give back as much to their co -conspirators(Corporate America), then maybe they wouldn't build the deficits they build. That way those rotten Liberal Democrats wouldn't have to tax to keep America afloat when its their turn to carry the ball. I'm sorry I couldn't resist, I was getting sick to my stomach reading some of this."Totally Clueless" is how I'd put it. I shall now retreat.

Yeah, call it totally clueless and retreat. I think the only one totally clueless IS retreating.

You really crack me up yankee. I bet you voted for Hillary too huh? And just LOOK at all the wonders she and upChuck have done for NY.....oh that's right....NOTHING! NY is one of the leading states for people moving OUT of it to find a better economy and job market in other states.

So Republicans try to make it easier on corporations to grow, ie create MORE and better paying jobs. And yet when they do, the dems blame them for the deficit. And yet if they try not to aid corporate America so much for the sake of public opinion, then the Dems blame us AGAIN for the unemployment rate. You can't have it both ways yanker. You guys are soooo predictable.

Democrats would tax the life out of us and DID even when the budget was getting balanced and the deficit dwindling. So WHERE is your rationale on that one??? Oh never mind, probably be some more left wing, idiotic, rhetoric, BS again anyway. Sell to the those who believe it, the welfare leeches you keep sending my money to in NYC.

Ya know what, I'm gonna start hi-jacking other people's posts, spewing lies, rhetoric, and out and out nonsense and see how long it takes before the Liberal police jump down my throat.

I can take things just fine, when they're TRUE! Or if they make sense, OR aren't so hypocritical. But your comments fail to meet any of that criteria...so nice try. And where do you get that I'm a southern boy???

Teri,

I just don't give 2 wads what anyone thinks anymore. Those who matter don't mind and those who mind don't matter!

Nice motto although I think I already came to that conclusion that's why I am here.

Nick the Wonder Dog is laying under my desk.....I wish I could get some gas relief!

That's the problem with political discussions I know my opinion is right just as much as you know your opinion is right. I know everything you say is liberalconservative b.s. just like you know everything I say is liberalconservative b.s. and neither one of us can understand why the other one just doesn't get it! LOL!

And just for the record Robay....you were not 100 feet off of the crib buoys....you tied up to one you Southern Scum!!LOL!! Then when I asked where they were as a 45 mph wind blew me perpendicular to the outside buoy and crashed me into the outer edge, your reply was "right there". You Johnny Reb good for nuthin swine!!Bwhaaaaa, if not for my lightening quick reflexes I'd a been sippin grog with Davey Jones (not the singer from the Monkeys either)!! Some guide you are...you showed me where they were alright!! And if my non-boater wasn't as lilly livered as you are, I'd of handed you your hat runnin over there!! Bwhaaaa.....Better get outta the kitchen LaMoist...it's gettin hot!!

TOXIC

We Love ya' Tox BUT, Ya' can't have my Budweiser...And we all here at NTOWS know your "KING" of TOXIC FUMES ;0 !!!

Sorry I throwed us off topic a little but, kinda' have to agree with Rob. I'm sick of taxes and the "middle man" payin' for EVERYTHING! Yeah I work for the govment...Yeah I make a decent paycheck BUT, I EARNED IT AND if ya' seen what Uncle Sam does to my paycheck...I'm sure you wouldn't be happy either. Make the BIG companies pay! Quite sendin' our jobs overseas! I could go on and on...but, I won't.

I just want to know...Where will it end?

Now fish stories, that's a different story! LOL!!

That's FINE with me Tox. I can handle the heat! But a little tip for ya....if you're driving over potentially damaging cribs, DON'T have your lower unit trimmed all the way down! LOL

Lightening like reflexes huh??? That was some mighty slow lightening that day I'll tell ya! I could have outrun it....with 1 leg.

Rich, you know, I'm all for differing opinions. That's fine. Things that are subject to interpretation, opinion etc, I can reason with and if the argument is made, even change my mind. However, some things are self evident and truths no matter what the opinion. If I tell you that the sky is blue, but your opinion is that it's more of a pinkish yellow, it is still blue, and your opinion still wrong. THOSE are the kinds of things I don't GET.
