OK, this might be a little long, bear with me. This country was started because, for one, a bunch of people got sick and tired of paying ridiculous tarriffs and taxes and we had this little thing called the Boston Tea Party. It was a crucial turning point towards the Revolution. The founding fathers also were sick and tired of a remote, unapproachable governing body that was implementing laws (mostly about religion) that had no place here.
OK, lets fast forward a few hundred years to today.....and WHAT has changed???
Gas is taxed by a percentage. Lets say, for argument's sake, 25%. So at $1.00 p/gal that's $0.25 on every gallon. When the PRICE of gas goes to $2.00 p/gal, the tax ALSO jumps up to $0.50 p/gal, and the gov't did NOTHING and incurred NO extra expenses. They simply took in more funds from an already economically stressed society.
The whole tax the snot out of cigarettes thing urked me to no end. Do I smoke? NO! Do I think it's pretty stupid to damage your body and waste money on them? Yes! Do I think it is ANYONE'S right, especially the gov't to step in and say "We're going to intervene by taxing them so high that people can't afford them!"? Hell NO!
If they would just cut taxes a tad, things would get a heck of a lot easier for everyone. I won't go into which party favors increasing taxes and which likes to cut them. One guy gives us our money back, while the other digs his hands into our pockets deeper.
We should also cut all this damn foreign aid to all the ungrateful useless countries that badmouth us but love our money. Use it to fund domestic programs like sending more AMERICAN kids to college, or putting it into school activities. Maybe the environment, or finding alternative fuel sources. Stop dumping money out for federal insurance for people who KNOWINGLY build in flood zones, because the fed gov't with OUR tax dollars will insure it. Stop all that stupid, idiotic nonsense and you'd be amazed at how quickly the economy would rebound and be booming again.
Rant is officially over.
