Tachometer Problem

Had the boat out four times during our vacation in Branson. Once on Table Rock and three on Taneycomo. On the second trip out, I noticed that my tach was reading only 5000 rpm at wide open throttle. When I shut the motor down to fish, the tach stuck at 800 - with the engine OFF!



Any thoughts?

MOFISH, the way I understand the tach is it not a problem if the tach stays on the number that the boat was running when it is shut down as long as it goes back to 0 when you turn the key on.
