94 170tf with a 94 125hp mariner. cranked the motor in the N position the boat started going forward. put it in the F position it was going forward and so on and so on. took the cowl of and i can see the shifter shifting in the correct way its supposed too. anyone had this problem or can help it would appreciated...:(

There is an adjustment on the cable inside the cowl. You have to pull the cable from it's holder and turn the adjusting nut in or out to get it set correctly. This is normal maintenance due to the cables stretching over time.

got it fixed. the shift pin in the foot broke in 3 places. i actually got lucky and it didnt mess up any gears.. frank collins in bessemer, alabama new exactly what it was.. great guy and great mechanic..:D
