all of a sudden my rev counter is showing 7000 rpm at full throttle, normally it was about 5000 what could cause this?

I have a 125 hp and it is doing it as well. I also noticed that when I first go to full throttle, I'm at about 5,000 rpm, then I hear a decrease in rpm but the guage shows 7,000 and I slow from about 45 down to 30 mph. Did my prop go bad? Or am I looking at an engine component? TIA!
