66 isn't old by today's standard. This really makes one feel in touch with their own mortality. I wonder what the full story on his death was? I read most of his articles and books and considered him a true self made expert. RIP. Life really is too short.

I got an email last night that I didn't see until early this morning with this news. Doug was a great fisherman and a big fish specialist extraordinaire, pioneering many big fish tactics. He was also a great fella to have a drink or two with and just shoot the bull. That is way too young to say goodbye to such a good man. Rest in peace, teach. :(

'Rap,....I've seen a couple reports that said he had "complications from neck surgery"...

I'll miss The Legend, The Man. He was probably my first inspiration to fish for trophy bass. I was a perch-jerker until Doug told me that I, too, could catch monster bass (and how to do it).

I'm now 66 years old and I salute the man as a fishing mentor .... unequaled.

I know the fishing is awesome where he is now .....
