Just as the title says, I just bought a 2005 189 Sport as my first boat. It only has the 115hp on it, but it's plenty fast for my needs.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but what prop do you guys recommend? Currently it has a 16p stainless, and with 2 people, a dog, and a ton of fishing gear I'm hitting 6,000rpm with the trim gauge only reading about 1/4 the way up? Is that normal? Top speed with that load at a decent elevation was 33ish on the gps (it did 42ish when I test drove it, just two guys nothing else, not even the trolling motor or batteries).

Congrats on the new boat.
I put a Mercury 4 blade prop on my Z19 Sport and it made improvements in both hole shot, low speed pulling and top speed.

I only use a small percentage of my trim also. It’s the nature of these hulls and the weight distribution. Another thing that helped was installing a hydrofoil on my outboard. I’ve had no porpoising since.
The best upgrade was the 4 blade prop.

I've got a hydrofoil installed already. I'm thinking I need a slightly higher pitch prop.

Interesting that you get a higher top end speed with a 4 blade. Everything else I've read seems to indicate the opposite: 3 blade gives you more top end, 4 blade gives you better hole-shot/economy.

Ditchpickle I am completely no use to you, I no idea what top speed or pitch prop I have, don't much care. Gets me to my fishing spots and pulls the kids tubing and skiing that's all I care about. Lot's of your boat looks familiar to me though

I have 97 185 sport with a 120 on it. Running a Laser II 3 blade 20 pitch. I also have a hydrofoil. I can go 42 mph at 5300 rpm with just me and my fishing gear in the boat. When I have the family I’ll be lucky to get 35-37.

Hello, any updates on your boat?

Nice boat. I just got one too. Same boat different color.
