OK, so whats the best way to actually do this? How can you actually find out what the baitfish colors, sizes, averages are from one body of water to the next?

Catch a fish, open up its belly and see what's inside. I've found crayfish, shad, insects, larve,...

If it was mini's chit, I had no idea. Future fish chit, maybe...but I'd have to meet Mini before I could tell if it was his chit or fish chit.

Now Toxic, on the other hand, there'd be no DOUBT about it bein' his chit. Of that I'm sure.

Check with your local college/university and/or DNR and I'll bet someone has created a fertility study of the lake(s) you're inquiring about. This will give you a breakdown of predator/prey and approximate percentage of food base, size, lifespan, etc..... ;)
