Humminbird Transducer

I have a 2001 basstracker pro 175xt that came with a trak pro 128 dx. It has been out of the water for some time being slowly restored. I noticed that the transducer looks like it melted. Is this normal?

It could be corroding from the inside out but it also could have been chewed on by some animal.

It looks like it oozed out between the plastic top. Still kind of tacky.

That is the filler used so the piezo can have contact with the housing so sound can pass through. Overheating will cause that since the filler will expand and crack the housing. There is no air gap inside so something has to give.
