fuel leak

I have a 2008 640 and I've recently noticed fuel stains on the nitro lettering on the side of the boat under the fuel cap.I also get some slight fuel smell around the cap.I was wondering if anyone has ever had this problem and does it mean that I need a new fuel cap.

I have an '06 640 and have not had anything like that happen. I usually keep the tank pretty well topped off but don't get any odor. There is an O ring on the cap. I had to replace mine when I first bought the boat 2 years ago. I don't know if that would make a difference but I guess it would be worth checking.

With todays fuels, gas caps and rags are cheap. I keep a bar of Ivory plain white soap (the one that floats) in the boat.

It does not have an odor.
