I am having trouble with the cap on the oil tank that is mounted on the engine. The cap is not getting

a good seal and is leaking alittle oil.. I was wanting to if anyone else was having this trouble and if you can just replace the cap or do you have to replace the whole tank? I have a Opti-Max motor, Thanks

Are you sure it is the cap? I had a check valve that was leaking oil from that tank into my engine compartment. 225 efi Merc. Replaced it & the problem was solved.

Yes, it's coming from the cap and around the top of the tank. I can see it leak went the motor is running

but if I tighten the cap it stops but the cap seems to become loose as I run the motor. I think the cap

treads are stripped.

I tried to get my cap replaced because one of the tabs broke off. My dealer told me I had to purchase the complete assembly. It costs about $100.00. I decided that was too much just because the tab was broken off.
