The wife and I took a refresher boating safety and general boating course recently; it was worth the time just to refresh the old brain on safety and operation.

Brand new Coast Guard Boating Safety card and Coast Guard boat safety check.

I took the Coast Guard Auxiliary course a few years back and enjoyed it immensely. I really wanted to take the Navigation Course but had to take the Basic Boating Safety course first. I took these courses during the winter months, one night a week and it gave me something to look forward too with the upcoming boating season. The dockside inspections they offer are great because if the Coast Guard sees the inspection sticker on the water, they're more likely to leave you alone, unless they see you doing something you shouldn't be doing. So if you plan on fishing the Great Lakes or for stripers off the coast, the sticker would be worth the free inspection. I might just take it again next winter.
