I have the guest charger for the 2 trolling batteries and I plug it in

when it's being stored for winter. I pull the cranking battery since I don't

have a 3 phase battery tender and top it off routinely over the winter.

Question: Even though I have the guest charger, is it fine to leave it the way

it is, or should I pull the batteries and do the same with them as I do the cranking

battery? What do you guys do?

Hi Shelbydad,

I have a 2008 901Cdx with a 3 bank guest charger and never take the batteries out. I will leave it plugged in thru the winter and they do fine, that is what the charger is designed to do. Prior to this boat I had a 2004 Nitro NX750 for 6 years and used a guest charger with it the entire time I owned it and never had a problem with the batteries. If it were me I would replace the 2 bank with a 3 bank and leave the cranking battery in the boat. A lot less work. Good luck.

Just be sure to check the fluid on the batteries regularly. It is possible to still have electrolyte loss even with a "smart" charger. If the levels get low, top off with distilled water only.

Or...In my case, I had a second Guest 2 bank charger and just mounted it on the cranking battery side and plug it in.
