96' nitro w/ hydraulic steering is getting dangerous. Steering wheel "spins" several times before the motor actually moves then over corrects. Sometimes has a "jerking" in the wheel while your tring to turn. Fast slow what ever.

This web site says to add fluid/ purge from the filler screw on helm, while turning from lock to lock (paraphrasing)

Is this the correct method or does it have to be serviced at the cylinder under motor.

Have enjoyed the web site thanks for keeping it going.

Hope Bob comes along before next week.

Thanks

I would try to bleed it first, and be sure there is no air in the system. It is a laborious process, that can take upwards of a 1/2 an hour, with two people. With the proper tools it helps, but in your driveway don't get discouraged. If every time you turn the wheel, loosen the bleeder {s} and you hear air escape, it is not bled. You should be able to grab the outboard and push and pull it side-to-side, with perhaps an 1/8" of play, and no sponginess. ;)
