i have a 1992 180 nitro F/S 150 hp v6 evinrude. ive never towede anyone and im new to boating. Ive had the boat 2 years and had it about 6 times just cruising. in the boat i found what is called a ski pylon tri pole kind. its is rusted but looks ok for use, i have thought of buying a new one for safety though. i want to0 get out there and pull my teenagerts on a tube. the ski pylon has cotter type pins to attach to the boat but all the new pylons ive seen have threaded attachments. i guess its just a matter of finding out what diameter my holes are on the boat where the pylon attaches and by the the way the hole is not threaded. the arms of the pylon attach with cooter pins with the one i have, so will the new threaded pylon work if i buy it? what say you nitro brothers?

There is some debate regarding towing tubes with ski plyons. I have been successful and had no issues at all. But there are stories about the poles bending, or doing damage to the back of the boat if / when the tube goes under the water because it creates a tremendous strain on the boat. I don't tow the kids over 25mph and can literally feel when one of them hops off, if it starts taking on water, etc. Of course I am out of the throttle immediately!

Most recommend towing skiers with the pylon and tubes with the hooks on the transom. One of these can be used with the transom hooks.

Below is my 1999 185Sport with the same ski pylon you describe.

Is there a picture available that shows where the 2 legs attach to the boat? Also, what is the cost of the pylon?

Sure. Both support arms attach as shown below. There is also a short video that gives you a shot of the pylon.

The cost is $275. I just noted the following disclaimer on their website..

DO NOT use Ski Pylons to pull any recreational equipment that is tied to the tow rope such as water tubes, aquaplanes, wakeboards, etc.

Not sure if this is the exact model I have, but it is close.

Have the same thing on 95 nitro and have pulled tubes for the last 14 years without problems.
