i just bought a 99, 175 Pro. I am having an issue with the 40 hp Mercury starting. It turns over but will not start. I have nano spark on any of the 3 cylinders. I suspect either the stator, or the kill switch. My question is. Did that year have a kill switch? I don’t have a manual and I did not get a lanyard to hook up, but have a place on the control lever for what looks like one, on a newer boat the kill switch will aloe the motor to turn over, but older boats may all it to turn over, but not start.

Also look at the rectifier.
Thanks. After cleaning up the spark plugs and coils. I have spark and compression. I have now tracked the issue to fuel. Rebuilding the fuel pump and cleaning carbs at this point. I still have to replace the kill switch, but that will be later. I should just buy a Johnson. Lol
