He's righ t try the linkage. Usually there is a shaft going down to the gears in the lower unit. It shifts thee forward an reverse pawel on the gears. I have seen some folks use the reverse one to replace the forward one that is worn.

If it is a single battery with a plug on the trolling motor you could just buy another plug and charge the battery through the plug on the boat. Just unplug the trolling motor and plug in the new plug that can be connected to the charger

I think there is a certain Mil spec number on the hose for ones that can handle alcohol in the gas. I know I checked mine and they were the right number. I will have to check again and get the number. I thin you can search past posts and it is already posted.
