Scales and Tales cartoons are drawn by Bill McElroy, of Waterford, MI. Initially created in 1987 as a result of his passion for fishing and drawing, Bill has been a mainstay in the world of fishing humor ever since. First appearing in several BASS State Federation Newsletters, and then in BASS Times for 10 years, Scales and Tales is widely recognized and loved by fishing fans around the globe. Bill's work is also in high demand by various companies in the fishing industry who have used his cartoons and illustrations for everything from promotional appearal to product packaging, holiday cards, technical manuals and how-to articles. His illustrations are featured in Kevin VanDam's "Secret's of a Champion" book and Mark Romanack's "Trolling from Top to Bottom". He has done work for Zebco/Quantum/MotorGuide, Berkley, Lowrance, Ranger Boats, Nitro Boats, Champion Boats, Mercury Marine, All Star Rods, Bass Pro Shops, and many other smaller companies. For the past several years, Bill has been traveling for Bass Pro Shops, providing customized rod handle graphics for their customers free of charge. The popularity and success of this promotion even led to the opportunity for Bill to customize two BPS rods for former President George H.W. Bush, as a gift from BPS Founder, Johnny Morris. His cartoons currently appear regularly on this website, as well as Wired2Fish.com and BoatUSAngler.com. His website, ScalesandTales.net is currently under construction and will be back on-line soon.
